we've had the first snow of the year, and the christmas cactus on the table is blooming! made my second batch of sugar cookies of the season. no where near as good as the first. actually an unqualified disaster, considering that i ran to Williams-Sonoma to buy an over-priced rolling pin and cookie cutter, then returned home to discover that my batter was having none of that. and while my cookies aren't shaped like xmas trees, they're colored like them. is this where a semi-endearing name, like "reindeer turds" comes in handy?

work is horribly busy and i can barely find the time to enjoy any of this. after this deadline, all i want is to drink a hot chocolate and knit.

i was briefly disappointed by the dearth of greens at the farmer's market this weekend. but once i got these soft pink beauties home, i was over it. check out that box. it is my de-facto root cellar.

xmas cactus

it's beginning to look a lot like xmas...

i have a number of house plants, but i am not what you might call a gifted gardener. in fact, these plants deserve to be commended for their stick-to-it-ive-ness. another christmas for you, cacti! i've been making extra coffee to give the plants. they are supposed to like that-although i suspect what they might really like is repotting.
